Dr Jonathan Clements is the author of many books about China and Japan, including The Emperor’s Feast: A History of China in Twelve Meals, Christ’s Samurai: The True Story of the Shimabara Rebellion, and A Brief History of the Martial Arts. For the National Geographic channel, he has presented three seasons of the award-winning Route Awakening, a TV series about icons of Chinese history and culture, as well as Shandong: Land of Confucius. His Anime: A History was a CHOICE selection as one of the year’s best scholarly titles, and was also nominated for the Society of Animation Studies’ McLaren-Lambart Award for the Best Scholarly Book on Animation. Several of his books have been translated into Chinese, including Albert Bridge’s biographies of Empress Wu and the First Emperor of China.
